Architect and Glazier Specification Representative

As an Architect and Glazier Representative you will be a key specification driver establishing, maintaining and growing our architectural specification share for PPG Metal Coatings. This position is a system approach to nontraditional selling with strong relationship building skills requiring system recommendations, guidance and project meetings with owners, architects, product specifiers, glaziers, applicators, general contractors and key corporate accounts.

The Architectural and Glazier Representative role addresses architect/specifier/designer needs to generate construction documents known as specifications and color schedules or also known as finish schedules for new and existing commercial buildings and monumental projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and develop relationships with Architect firms and Glaziers to drive spec position. Once relationship is determined, further presentations will be required to influence the project specification as Basis of Design, as/or Equal or simply listed as an approved manufacturer.
  • This role will address both product systems on the technical side and the color schedules on the design side, and must possess the higher-level understanding of complexity and proficiency of both.
  • Role is expected to hold technical coating system conversations with specification writers and discuss color schemes with designers.
  • Project tracking and planning, communicating plan, allocating tasks and setting milestones is key. This position will call on those firms who influence specifications for commercial businesses, building/office space, retail, hotels, resorts etc.
  • This position will be regionally based in major PPG coatings Specification Markets (list on request) and work remotely with regular architects and glaziers.


  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in outside sales with a proven track record of success; prior sales experience is a must as this is a leadership role converting specification opportunities to revenue.
  • Four Year Degree and/or equivalent experience to influence Architectural Specifications Communication skills must embody customer centric communication in person, virtual and verbal.
  • Strong presentation skills and competency in front of various audiences is a must
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, PowerPoint, Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop, and web based applications (Construct Connect, BSD, AVITRU, and BIM/REVIT)
  • Excellent organizational and project management/tracking skills
  • Experience with AIA MasterFormat and CSI/CDC Three Part Format, IIDA or ASID is highly preferred
  • A member of industry associations are expected; candidates with current architect and interior design contacts will be given additional preference.
  • Must understand the relationship between Owner/Architect/Designer/ Glazier/Applicator/General Contractor.
  • This role requires consistent travel within the territory and overnight of two nights per week average to ensure long sales cycles are converted in sales. Must possess a valid Driver's License.
