Infrastructure Engineer, Specialist II (Wireless)

Installs, configures and maintains telecommunication equipment throughout the enterprise. Provides troubleshooting support for the telecommunications system. Interacts with other telecommunications staff and users to ensure continuous availability of the telecommunications system. Installs and maintains telecommunications hardware and software, including network nodes and wiring. Monitors and maintains telecommunication network stability. Prepares and maintains documentation for telecommunication configuration and cabling layouts.

Main Activities/Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Support and design responsibilities for wireless networks at PPG locations globally. 
  • Assist in collecting relevant environmental data, and conduct onsite wireless surveys. 
  • Will be tasked with providing wireless design for various types of locations and environments, coordinating access-point replacements, and managing internal as well as 3rd parties for mounting and cabling requirements. 
  • Coordinate plans with the regional Telecom teams, and also be responsible for auditing, validating, and monitoring wireless coverage, as well as ensuring client wireless compliance. 
  • Will be expected to administer day-to-day wireless infrastructure tasks and requests, as well as trouble shoot wireless related problems reported through the Global IT Service Desk for PPG sites globally.
  • Will be expected to carry a PPG provided Cell Phone and respond to trouble calls off hours.  An understanding of PPG IT infrastructure and procedures is necessary.

Functional and Technical Skills:

This position requires strong interpersonal, communication, organization, and problem solving skills for administering networking solutions throughout the enterprise.  The position provides troubleshooting support to data communications systems that support PPG Businesses worldwide. They have a strong understanding of data wiring standards and LAN design principles; have a firm understanding of PPG’s LAN and WAN standards, and Wireless technologies.  The position does require knowledge of PPG’s warehouse and ERP applications.  The candidate will help prepare and maintain documentation of wireless infrastructure.

Experience and Education:

•            Bachelor’s degree in a computer-related field, or 3-5 years IT experience

•            Knowledge of telecommunication systems

•            Good problem solving abilities

•            Ability to define, organize, plan, and deliver on assigned tasks

•            Ability to effectively participate in project teams

•            Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to document network designs

•            Ability to complete tasks effectively and consistently
